We read the reviews and although they were not stellar , we figured we should check Castaways out for ourselves. The location is extremely convenient for us so even if the restaurant was just OK, it might be a good choice for a quick meal from time to time. We ordered appetizers - chicken tenders and fried mozzarella. Both really good, not just run of the mill but actually very good. The special was Chioppino (Chioppini on the board) if you have read any of my other reviews, you will see that this is a favorite of mine. Unfortunately it is a dish that can be great or a dish that can go horribly wrong. I was hesitant to order the Chioppini during a first visit but the friendly waitress said it was very popular with others who ordered it so I went ahead and had it. I asked for it spicy and the chef was more than happy to accommodate. It was awesome. One of the best I have ever had and I was so pleased and surprised! Also, it was a unique version of the dish which made it all that much more enjoyable and it was spiced up perfect for my taste. MMMMMM! Also... The fish (cod?) in the Chioppini was absolutely fantastic... I mean really really well prepared! My wife had a ribeye with garlic butter which was cooked perfect and very tasty. More than she could finish do she took some home. My wife also commented on how much she enjoyed the mixed veggies. Something about the light sauce they were prepared in. We ended the meal with a shared brownie sundae desert and we were very happy we gave Castaways a try. We will return and update YELP on how that goes. They advertise prime rib on Tuesdays and although we rarely go out for dinner during the week, we may make an exception. 5 stars first visit... Not bad!

We had seen this place in passing and decided to try it out for breakfast. We got mimosas which were expensive at $7 a small glass. The menu was small but looked promising. I ordered an omelet and the eggs were burnt but middle was undercooked. The american fries were totally weird. My husband got eggs Benedict which was horrible. The poached eggs were just shy of hard boiled the hollandaise was salty and way too thin which made the english muffin doughy. He also got an order of pancakes which were absolutely amazing. Very fluffy and sweet. The server was good she was sweet and tentative up until the end. She was no where to be found. We will not be returning to this place. I can make good pancakes at home.

Just like the review before me I don't kno where all the negative reviews come from. I came here to have a light lunch with a friend and a few afternoon drinks, maybe it was the time I came to eat but we was greeted right away and seated. Our server was really welcoming and helpful. She suggested the chicken wings, but I'm not much of a chicken wing fan. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to eat that day so I went with her suggestion with a side of French fries. I'm really big fan of French fries and I must say the fries here is really good. The chicken wings is good too, skin was really crispy and the chicken was moist and fully cooked. I can see that this place is trying hard to be some sort of "sports bar" because of all the TVs I think they might have Duffy beat on how many TVs they have. I definitely will come back for lunch again as long as they have those French fries lol.

Castaways is a hidden gem in Northlake Blvd and I highly recommend! The chef is truly excellent. They have excellent entrees and we love their wine. The wait staff is so very nice. They offer a prime rib special on some week nights. We had an amazing shrimp pot pie a few months ago that was simply delicious plus the chef presented the entree with a fish shape designed into the crust. I've had dinners served with a flower! Great food in a relaxed atmosphere.

The menu sounds amazing. They have some unique recipes and unique seafood preparation. While their menu looks great, the food you receive, not so much. A lot of the food is prepared haphazardly, poorly done, small portions, not the best quality ingredients, etc. Worse yet, they suffer from the phenomenon of many less successful restaurants where they'll charge extra for just about everything, not to mention, their prices are quite high for what you receive. For example, their wedge salad, which is a "side" or "starter" size salad, will run you $8+.

We tried this new restaurant tonight. We got their around 7 pm and the place was busy for a Tuesday night. Service was initially slow, but the waiter soon caught up and passed our test for keeping our Ice teas filled. I ordered the special which was roast beef which was a large portion and properly cooked. A bit too much gravy which flooded the made from scratch potatoes. The green beans also had too much butter on them. My wife had the hamburger and fries that looked very ordinary, but she liked it just fine. Somehow I feel this restaurant is a work in progress and I hope they make it. The product still needs work.

I have no idea what the complaints were from before but they must have changed the menu, staff and food! Big Kahana burger was excellent. Ahi tacos were super yummy! Great pricea. Strong drinks. Very nice service. I'd highly recommend this place... and we are from LA and pretty picky. :)

Close to where I live, good service and ambiance, but needs more culinary work. When other reviews say overpriced, they are definitely correct. The W went for both dinner and breakfast (we *really* wanted to like this place) and unfortunately, it didn't get any better. For dinner, I went with the reviews. The rib-eye. Unfortunate. I am pretty bad at grilling, so I know what badly cooked rib-eye tastes like. Tasted like when I quick defrosted a steak, did not let it rest, put it in a marinade for a short time, and cooked it all wrong. Not good. For breakfast, I went with biscuits and gravy. It was a sausage gravy, so maybe it was their take on it, but the ratio of sausage to gravy was totally off (the gravy had turned brownish) and the biscuits were wierd. A little too doughy to handle the gravy. Ahh well. Maybe (due to is distance from the house), we'll try it again. I hope they do better. We really want a nice place to eat that's nearby.

This place for me has been hit or miss. The food is pretty good, prices reasonable but out of the 4 times I have been they forgot our order twice.

Very nice out of the way place! My husband had naked wings (not too messy) and I had shrimp nachos that were excellent, 2 Rum Runners and a rose for Valentines Day! Friendly wait staff too....

Since my last review we have had take out food from here several times (mostly lunch meetings for work). Each time we have ordered they have messed up something on the order. Last time we ordered Calamari that we didn't even get. I don't know if we got charged for it because a rep paid the meal and I never saw the receipt. This last time I got a salad with salmon. It had chopped tomatoes and salsa on it (not described on the menu) and it was not good. None of my coworkers enjoyed their food either. I have a feeling that this place isn't going to make it unless they improve their food. I will say that everyone seems to be nice there. It is pricey for what you get too.

Wife and I had a late lunch/early dinner here about a week or two after they opened. Because they are new and probably need a little time to get things in gear I'm giving them 3 stars, otherwise I would give them 2. Service was good and very friendly. Tables are spaced far apart which is nice. TV's all along perimeter of wall/ceiling. Otherwise plain looking. Had onion rings and conch fritters for appetizers. The onion rings were pretty good and the waitress said they are battered fresh in house. The conch fritters have potential to be excellent, but ours were not. They had more conch in them than any fritters I've had in a long time. However, the outside was overcooked and a little burnt tasting and the inside was under cooked and mushy. Wife had Portobello sandwich. Usually the mushroom has been marinated before it's grilled. This one was not, so not much flavor. The slices of tomato served with it were inedible. I had the steak and cheese sandwich. I don't know if it was put in the microwave to melt the cheese or not, but the roll was so unappetizingly soft and void of texture that's what it seemed like. The rest of the sandwich was average at best. It came with fries which appeared to be fresh cut, but they were greasy. Also came with slaw -- was such a small thimble size portion they shouldn't even bother to note it on the menu --- and it was not tasty. We live out west so one day might go back and try it again.

OK...second visit. Still good. Some kinks to be worked out, but my ribeye was very good. The mashed potatoes and beans were both fresh....you could tell. Wait staff seemed to be still learning, but they were very friendly and worked well as a team. The owner confirmed that they are planning on opening for breakfast soon. There were quite a few other Ibis residents there, as it's located right outside the Ibis front gate. Bread and butter was special request, though. So what we got took some asking, and the way the butter was served, you could tell that they don't serve it unless you ask. This place has a lot of potential. Good crowd, too. It looks like they're doing things right.

Just had lunch there. Staff is great. They just opened, and are working out kinks. Conch fritters had lots of conch, but were greasy. Gonna wait a few weeks and try again.

The service was bad and the food was worse. I have been three times hoping that things would improve. They seem to get worse with each visit. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.

The ambiance isn't bad, but the food is nothing to write home about. It's a little too pricey for the quality.

I have eaten at Castaways Bar &. Grill a half a dozen times. Everything that I (and my dinner companions) have eaten has been delicious. The Mahi soft tacos, Ruben fish sandwich, Red Snapper, Salmon, and salads are all wonderful . Sweet potato fries and brownie alamode were delicious! This restaurant has a relaxing , casual and friendly atmosphere. This is a great place to get very tasty food.

Staff is friendly... But food is not good. We had conch fritters that were almost too over cooked outside and doughy inside. I had a dolphin Reuben and the fish was fine but the bread was soggy... Go to reef grill or tiki bar to get a lesson on how to make this sandwich please. Hubby had sliders... The chicken was a little frozen breaded patty with nothing on the bread, completely dry. We paid $45 for our less than mediocre meal... Really disappointing!!

Went there within a week of their opening and they were training some staff but everyone was very friendly. They have a wide variety of American grill type food. I had the "Sliders" appetizer with pulled pork, chicken and hamburger with the pork being the best followed by the chicken which were very good. The burger was a tiny thin patty which was not great. My son had the Mahi-Mahi dinner, which was Excellent! I wish them the best because we need a good neighborhood restaurant out west of the TP.
